October is around the corner which means Oktoberfest season, and one of the area’s biggest is this weekend! If you prefer art, there’s a big craft show and an art festival  in addition to the other events listed below.  If you’re still in search of something to do, check out our Fall Fun post with a list of the area’s Fall Festivals and nearby orchards.

Fridays at the Fountain is Crystal City’s seasonal pop-up beer garden that features live music from local bands and musicians. Admission is free, and food and drink are available for purchase. Fridays at the Fountain are every Friday from 5-9 pm at the Crystal City Water Park. This week’s performer is Michael McHenry and the Tribe.

Fort Belvoir’s Annual Oktoberfest is this weekend. This popular four-day event runs Thursday through Sunday. Enjoy a traditional Oktoberfest in the Fest Tent with live German bands, dance groups, and authentic German beer. There’s also a full carnival with rides, games, and carnival eats. Admission is free, but tickets or an unlimited ride wristband are required for rides. Sunday is Military Appreciation Day with discounted wristbands available for all active duty military and their dependents.

The Occoquan Arts and Crafts Show is Saturday and Sunday in Historic Occoquan. Enjoy live entertainment while shopping for unique items created by a variety of crafters and artisans. The Historic District will be closed to traffic, but a shuttle bus is available for a $5 roundtrip fee. Admission to the craft show is free.

Learn about the fall migration patterns of birds at the Fall Migration Bird and Nature Walk at the Julie J. Metz Neabsco Creek Wetlands in Woodbridge. Nature experts will take you on a guided tour of the trails and boardwalks of the 120-acre property. The tour will begin at 8 am Saturday and last about 2 hours. The 3rd Annual Steins, Wines & Spirits Festival is this Saturday from 12 to 6 pm at the Manassas Museum lawn in Historic Downtown Manassas. Sample a variety of craft beers, Virginia wines, and distilled spirits while listening to live music. Food vendors will be available as well as fresh oysters at the oyster tent. Taster tickets are $40/person and include 8 tastings. Non-taster tickets are $10. 

The Loudon County International Festival is this Sunday from 12 to 6 pm at the Douglass Community Center Park in Leesburg. There will be two stages featuring live performances and demonstrations, children’s activities, food trucks, and vendors with a wide array of wares. Admission is free, but there is a small fee for some of the activities.

The Valley Fest Street Festival is Sunday from 12 to 5 pm in Arlington. Enjoy live music while viewing the works of local artists. There will be a Kid’s Zone with lots of fun crafts to keep the kids entertained. Food will be available for purchase as well as beer. Admission is free.
