Northern Virginia Weekend Events – October 12

Here’s a look at what’s happening in our area this weekend. If you’re still looking for something to do, check out our Fall Activities post for a list of ongoing Fall Festivals and nearby orchards.

Fridays at the Fountain is Crystal City’s seasonal pop-up beer garden that features live music from local bands and musicians. Admission is free, and food and drink are available for purchase. Fridays at the Fountain are every Friday from 5 to 9 pm at the Crystal City Water Park. This week’s performer is 17th Street Band with The Loop.

The annualFall Carnival and Harvest Days is this weekend at Frying Pan Park in Herndon. The carnival kicks-off Friday from 5 to 9 pm, then you can experience fun on the farm Saturday and Sunday by loading the antique cider press, milking a goat, grinding corn, playing old fashioned games, and more. Parking and admission are free. Tickets are required for carnival rides, and there are additional fees for wagon rides and carousel rides.

The Portside in Old Town Festival is this weekend in Old Town Alexandria. This festival celebrates the launching of the new Portside in Old Town programming series that will start later this fall. Enjoy live entertainment, kid’s crafts, a waterfront beer garden, a pop-up pizzeria, tours of the tall ship Godspeed, and more. Admission is free.

It’s the 155th anniversary of the Battle of Bristoe Station this weekend at Bristoe Station Battlefield Heritage Park. Tour a Civil War encampment, watch artillery demonstrations, and tour the site of the final battle that took place in Prince William County. On Saturday evening close to 1,000 candles for every soldier that died at Bristoe Station will be lit. This event will run from 11 am to 4 pm Saturday and Sunday. Admission is free, but donations are appreciated.

It’s PetOberfest this Saturday at Stone Bridge, Potomac Town Center in Woodbridge. There will be lots of fun activities for pets, pet owners, and kids with a Pet Parade and costume contest, petting zoo, moon bounce, pet photos, and more.

Enjoy extended hours at Second Saturday Art Walk at the Workhouse Arts Center in Lorton from 6 to 9 pm. Meet featured artists and more during this free monthly event.

Art with a Heart is an art show at the Gallery Clarendon in Arlington this Saturday from 1 to 4 pm. In addition to art exhibits, there will be face painting, caricature art, kid’s crafts, and more. Money raised will benefit Arlington foster care. This is a free event.

Do you love B movies? It’s Scary B-Movie Night at Rippon Lodge in Woodbridge Saturday evening starting at 7:30 pm. The Thing from Another World will be playing on the lawn. Bring your own blankets and chairs. Popcorn and beverages will be available for purchase. Admission is free but donations are appreciated.
