President’s Day Weekend Events

System - Wednesday, February 15, 2017

Happy President’s Day Weekend! If you’re lucky enough to have Monday off you might consider visiting one of the many nearby National Parks because admission is free for President’s Day! George Washington’s Mount Vernon is also offering free admission to the estate on Monday and again on Wednesday, February 22, which would have been George Washington’s 285th birthday.

Alexandria Restaurant Week kicks off on Friday, February 17 and runs through February 26. This is a great opportunity to try out a new restaurant at a bargain price. 70 restaurants will be offering a $35 three-course dinner for one or a $35 dinner for two. Over 30 restaurants will also offer lunch specials ranging from $10-$20 per person. Visit the Alexandria Restaurant Week page for participating restaurants and to make reservations. Many of the more popular restaurants fill up fast, so reservations are recommended.

The annual George Washington Birthday Parade is Monday, February 20th from 1pm to 3pm. The one mile parade route runs through historic Old Town Alexandria. The parade will start at the intersection of Gibbon and Fairfax, running north on Fairfax and then turning at Queen and heading south on Royal. While you’re in Old Town Alexandria, stop by Gadsby’s Tavern for a free tour of the museum and tavern. Tours will be offered from 11am to 4pm.
