Military Transfers

System - Monday, February 11, 2013
We love our military landlords and tenants, and we often get requests from landlords to "find me a military tenant."  Our code of ethics requires us to present every qualified applicant to the owner for consideration.  Military families make excellent tenants, but in our area the risk of an early lease termination due to military transfer is high.   By federal law (Servicemembers Civil Relief Act - SCRA for short) a military order to transfer allows a tenant to break a lease with apx.  60 days notice, and no lease-break penalty may be assessed.   Tenants often ask - is the "military" clause in the lease?  It is, but does not need to be - it is federal law, and always will apply.  We're proud of our military members and happy to assist when they receive orders.  We're happiest when they can stay their full lease term, however!
