Don't forget, Mother's Day is on Sunday!  Gadsby's Tavern Museum and the Stabler-Leadbeater Apothecary Museum in Old Town Alexandria are offering free tours to moms! Surrealism: A Photography Exhibit - Del Ray Artisans, Alexandria, VA -– May 6 – May 29, Opening Reception: Friday, May 06, 2016 7pm – 9pm. This is a new exhibit that features photography that pushes the limits of reality. This is a free event. See website for gallery hours. Annual Kite Festival - Gunston Hall, Mason Neck, VA – Saturday, May 7, 12pm – 5pm. Enjoy an afternoon of kite flying, children’s activities, living history and tours. Kites will be available for purchase in the museum. Food and beverages will also be available for purchase. $10 adults; $5 children 6-18. Spring Art Market - Del Ray Artisans, Alexandria, VA - Saturday, May 7, 10am – 4pm rain or shine. The Spring Art Market is a one day event that gives you the opportunity to purchase original works by local artist. The Market will be in the Nicholas A. Colasanto Park, adjoining Del Ray Artisans gallery at 2704 Mount Vernon Avenue, Alexandria, VA. Free Mother’s Day Tours at Stabler-Leadbeater Apothecary Museum, Alexandria, VA – Sunday, May 8, 1pm – 5pm. Moms get a free tour of the historic store where four generations of the Stabler/Leadbeater family sold drugs, paints, seeds, and other products to Alexandrians for nearly 150 years. Free Mother’s Day Tours at Gadsby’s Tavern Museum, Alexandria, VA – Sunday, May 8, 1pm – 5pm. Moms get to enjoy a free tour of the famous tavern that was the center of political and social life in early Alexandria. Free for Mothers, $5 for all other adults and $3 for children 5-12 Mother’s Day Open House at Friendship Firehouse Museum, Alexandria, VA – Sunday, May 8 1pm – 4pm. Families will get free admission to the Friendship Firehouse Museum. The firehouse photographer will be taking complimentary portraits. Pose alongside the historic equipment that fought fires in 19th – century Alexandria. Learn about the suction pumper and other artifacts. Children will get a free fire hat! Mother’s Day Weekend at Mount Vernon Estate, Alexandria, VA Saturday, May 7 – Sunday, May 8 9am – 5pm. Join the “Mother of our Country” Martha Washington and her granddaughter, Nelly Custis this weekend at Mount Vernon. First Lady Martha Washington will give lavender sachets to all visiting mothers. Free with cost of admission to the estate.
