Happy March! Here’s a look at what’s happening throughout the area this weekend. 

It’s First Friday in Historic Downtown Manassas. This month’s theme is March Mad Hatterness and will include a scavenger hunt to collect playing cards. The person with the best hand at the end of the evening will win a prize. This free event runs from 6 to 9 pm. 

The 56th Annual Woodlawn Needlework Show and Sale begins Friday March 1 and will run through the entire month of March. The show is open from 10 am to 4 pm every day except Tuesdays. Visit the website to buy tickets in advance and to view the special events that will take place throughout the month. 

Get a head start on your St. Patrick’s Day celebration at the 38th Annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade in Old Town Alexandria. The parade starts at 12:30 pm at the intersection of King and Alfred. Kick off the day early at the Fun Dog Show at Market Square. Over 30 dogs will compete in a variety of categories including Most Talented, Most St. Paddy’s Spirit, Best Human/Canine Look-Alike, and more. Cheer for your favorite canine competitors starting at 11 am. 

Learn about life in Alexandria at Home with the Herberts this Saturday from 12 to 4 pm at Carlyle House in Alexandria. Meet William Herbert, Alexandria’s mayor who served prior to the War of 1812. 

The DC Big Flea Antiques Market is this weekend at the Dulles Expo Center in Chantilly. Admission is $10 per person. 

Author Patricia Miller will discuss her book Bringing Down the Colonel at this Sunday’s Free Book Talk at the Manassas Museum. The free talk will begin at 1:30 pm.
