Halloween Fun in Northern VA

System - Monday, October 26, 2015
Halloween is this Saturday and Northern Virginia is a great place to be for spooky fun. There are many options ranging from the truly terrifying to kid friendly activities. Cox Farm’s Fields of Fear in Centreville is a creepy walk through a haunted corn maze. It runs through Sunday, November 1 from 7:30pm–11pm. If you’re looking for something less scary, their regular Fall Festival is a really fun family activity that runs from 10am–6pm. There are  giant slides, hayrides, live music, a corn maze, and much more. If you want to visit a haunted house, Paxton Manor in Leesburg claims to be “the only real haunted house” in Northern Virginia. The annual Shocktober event is open this Friday and Saturday from 7pm–10pm. The haunted house is extremely scary with interactive attractions and not recommended for kids under 13. Another activity that’s not for those prone to nightmares is the Haunted Forest in Sterling, VA. There is a haunted trail and if you’re really looking to get scared you can go into the haunted fun house. The Haunted Forest is open this Friday and Saturday. The gates open at 7pm and the last ticket is sold at 11pm. For something less scary and appropriate for kids 8 and older, you can visit The Haunted Village of Annandale. The Haunted Village is open from 6pm-9pm this Friday and Saturday. While advertised as appropriate for younger kids, there are some things that might be too scary for some kids and parents are advised to use their discretion. The earlier hours are less scary than later times.  Creepy Nights on Calamo in Springfield is back! The music and light show will be running every evening until 9:30. There will be a haunted walk-thru this Friday and Saturday from 6:30pm–10pm. There is also Trick-or-Treating on Halloween night from 7pm–10pm. This is a free event, but canned food donations for E.C.H.O. are appreciated. The Children’s Science Center in Fair Oaks Mall is mixing science with spooky through their Haunted Lab. There will be special Halloween themed activities all day long. The Haunted Lab is this Friday and Saturday from 10am – 8pm. Costumes are encouraged, and there will be a children’s costume contest at 11:30am and 2:30pm on both days. On Saturday you can stay at Fair Oaks Mall and go Trick-or-Treating at the annual Mall-O-Ween event that runs from 5pm–8pm. Have a safe and happy Halloween!
