First Weekend of November Fall Fun

System - Tuesday, November 3, 2015
The local Fall Festivals are coming to a close, but it’s not too late to squeeze in more fall fun. November is a wonderful time to get out and explore the area where we live while the weather is moderate and the holiday rush hasn’t yet started. There are still some fall activities happening this weekend both in Northern Virginia and further out if you enjoy a scenic car ride. Not sure what to do with your jack-o-lantern now that Halloween is over? This weekend Cox Farms will be celebrating the end of its Fall Festival with Pumpkin Madness on Saturday Nov. 7 and Sunday Nov. 8 from 10am-5pm. You can watch pumpkins be dropped, squished, smashed, or stomped. This is the last weekend that their popular Fall Festival will be open, so if you miss it you’ll have to wait until next year. If you’ve had enough of Fall Festivals and are looking for something different, on Saturday, Nov. 7th Rustico Restaurant and Bar in Alexandria will be hosting their Fourth Annual Novemberfest. This is an outdoor block party that runs from 12-5 PM and features 50 or more local beers brewed by Virginia craft brewers. Food will be available for purchase, and this year, wine lovers can enjoy selections from Virginia's own Barboursville Vineyards. Local bluegrass bands will provide live entertainment and there will be games and activities to entertain the whole family. If you want to get out of Northern Virginia this weekend, but don’t want to drive all day, the Caledon Art and Wine Festival in scenic King George is Saturday, Nov. 7th from 10am-4pm. Get a head start on your holiday shopping and enjoy a fall day at the park. Browse local artisan’s wares and taste wine from local wineries. A commemorative wine glass is included with the price of tasting. Food will also be for available for purchase. The picnic shelter, gift shop and visitor center will be open, and hay wagon rides will be available to keep the kids entertained. Finally, if you love oysters and don’t mind a long car ride, the Urbanna Oyster Festival is Friday Nov. 6th from 10am-5pm and Saturday Nov. 7th from 9am-5pm. The quaint Town of Urbanna closes its streets for this big celebration of oysters and the heritage that surrounds it. Over 50 food vendors will be present. Try all varieties of oysters - raw, steamed, roasted, Rockefeller, fried, or stewed. There will be plenty of other non-oyster food choices, as well as arts and crafts,  historical boats and exhibits on the conservation of the bay, watermen and the oyster industry. Have a fantastic start to your November!
