Normally we’re still shoveling snow this time of year but it looks like the warm weather is supposed to continue through the weekend. If you’re looking for something to do, here’s a look at some of the events that are happening throughout our area.

Alexandria’s Winter Restaurant Week continues through this weekend, so check it out if you haven’t already. There are tons of fantastic restaurants offering a variety of cuisines at bargain prices. Both lunch and dinner specials are being offered. Restaurant Week ends Sunday so book your weekend reservations to take advantage of some great deals.

On Friday evening the Torpedo Factory is launching a new after-hours performance series called Late Shift at the Factory. The first performance of this new series features Babe (Expansion Pack), a modern dance duet from D.C.’s darlingdance dance company. A Q&A session will follow the performance. The event begins at 7:30 and tickets are $10 in advance or $15 at the door.

Arlington is celebrating its African American Heritage this Saturday at the Feel the Heritage Festival. In its 25th year, the festival features live music and dance, a “Hall of History,” and free activities for the kids. This free event is from 1pm to 6pm at the Drew Community Center.

Reenactors from the 3rd U.S. Regular Infantry, Company K will be doing a Civil War Winter Drill demonstration at Fort Ward on Saturday from 1pm to 4pm. While there, visit the Fort Ward Museum to see their latest exhibit, "Shield of the Earth: Defending the Heart of the Union" a look how Washington D.C. was protected during the Civil War. The demonstration and admission to the museum are free.
