Here’s a look at what’s happening throughout the area this weekend.

It’s WinterFest this Saturday in the Lorton, Occoquan, Lake Ridge region. This is a daylong winter celebration with events scattered throughout the area. WinterFest kicks off with Santa’s Lake Ridge Parade at 11 am, followed by a holiday art market at Tackett’s Mill until 2 pm. Next, head over to Historic Occoquan for carols and a visit from Santa. The Workhouse Arts Center will have a special WinterFest 2nd Saturday Art Walk. The day will end with a firework display over the Occoquan River at 8 pm.

Experience the Holidays through the Ages at Rippon Lodge Historic Site in Woodbridge. Fridays through Sundays in December the historic house will be decorated to reflect the holidays from Colonial times through the 1940’s. The cost is $5 per person, children 6 and under are free. In addition, this Saturday Santa will be visiting from 1 pm to 3 pm. The cost is $3 per child.

The Dumfries Christmas Parade is Saturday starting at 12 pm and will run from Main St. to the Dumfries Shopping Center. Head over to the new Town Hall building at 5 pm for a visit with Santa, sweet treats, and the tree lighting.

Experience Christmas the way it was during the Civil War era at Leesylvania State Park this Saturday from 10 am to 4 pm. There will be a Civil War era Santa, period music, costumed interpreters, crafts, and more.

Fort Ward Museum’s annual Civil War Christmas in Camp is Saturday from 12 to 2 pm. A Civil War-era Union Santa will be on site in addition to reenactors who will demonstrate army life in the winter camps. This is a free event, but donations are recommended.

Ongoing Winter Events

Light Up Fest – Ashburn, VA – Open daily 5:30 to 10:30 pm. Tickets $29.99 ages 13-64, $19.99 children ages 3-12, with various discounts available for seniors, students, and free admission every Tuesday for active duty military, police officer, and fire fighters.

Winter Walk of Lights – Meadowlark Botanical Gardens, Vienna – Open daily 5:30 to 10 pm. Tickets $14 regular admission, $8 children ages 2 – 12.

The Bull Run Festival of Lights – Bull Run Regional Park, Centreville – Open daily 5:30 to 9:30 (M-Th), 10 pm (F-S). Admission is $20 - $25 per vehicle.
