Here are some of the things going on in our area this weekend. Enjoy the beautiful spring weather! Pirate Fest – Lake Fairfax Park Saturday 4/16/16 11am – 4pm. The hugely popular Pirate Fest celebrates Virginia’s seafaring past. Experience life as a pirate with traditional seafaring tunes performed by Pyrates Royale and John Durant. Listen to stories about life as a pirate, go on a treasure hunt, and much more! Pirate Costumes are encouraged, and there will be a costume contest! Tickets are $10 and can be bought at the gate. Bluebells at the Bend – Riverbend Park, Saturday 4/16/6 10am – 2pm. Celebrate the Virginia Bluebells as they blanket the banks of the Potomac River. Bring the whole family for fun including games, music, wildflower walks, wagon rides, and more! $5 per person. Georgia Nassikas Oils and Encaustics – Athenaeum, Old Town Alexandria, Daily through 4/24/16. Artist Georgia Nassikas explores the intersection of the abstract and the representational. She focuses on the elemental lines, shapes, and colors that define at core of the natural world. The resulting calm luminous quality of her compositions urges inner reflection and outward preservation of earth’s beautiful balance. This is a free event. Save our Ship Tour - Alexandria Archaeology Museum, Old Town Alexandria, this weekend only, reservations required! Early Alexandrians sunk the 18th century ship in the Potomac mudflats over 200 years ago. Archaeologists unearthed it, temporarily saving it from destruction. Special behind-the-scenes tours are being offered before it is moved to a conservation facility. A minimum $10 donation is requested. Register at https://shop.alexandriava.gov/SelectEvent.aspx. Select Alexandria Archaeology Save our Ship Tours to make your reservation. Ballroom Social Dance – Workhouse Arts Center, Lorton, 4/16/16 8pm – 10:30pm. The monthly Ballroom Social Dance in the McGuire-Woods Gallery (second floor of W-16) features dancing, complimentary refreshments and cash bar. The social dance will be led by professional ballroom instructors. A 30 minute mini-lesson is offered before each social dance from 7:30pm-8:00pm.  This weekend’s mini-lesson will focus on West Coast Swing. The Social Dance is $10 per person and can be purchased in advance, the mini-lesson is $5 per person and is only sold at the door.
