Thanksgiving is next week and believe it or not, holiday events are already starting this weekend! If you’re not quite ready to start celebrating the holiday season, there are plenty of other options to keep you busy. Here’s a look. The historic First Baptist Church of Alexandria is hosting an International Holiday Bazaar on Friday and Saturday. Regional artists will display international gift items for your holiday shopping. The first 25 people at the door on Friday and Saturday will be entered to win a door prize. Santa will be available for photo ops on Friday night. A $5 donation is requested to support Bethany House. Do you want to feature your pets on your holiday cards this year? The Animal Welfare League of Alexandria (AWLA), in partnership with Olde Towne School for Dogs and The Kingsley apartments, presents Olde Towne Santa Claws Photos. You and your dog, cat, bird, rabbit can pose with Santa and be professionally photographed. This event runs Friday through Sunday. The cost is a $40 tax-deductible donation, which includes the sitting fee and a high-resolution download. Photo times must be reserved in advance. The Northern Virginia Mineral Club and the GMU Department of Atmospheric, Oceanic and Earth Sciences is sponsoring the 25th Annual Gem, Mineral and Fossil Show this weekend at George Mason University in Fairfax. There will be over 20 dealers selling minerals, fossils, crystals, gems, meteorites and more. In addition there will be demonstrations, exhibits, door prizes and kid’s activities, including a free kid’s mini-mines and fossil dig. The show is both Saturday and Sunday, with a silent auction on Sunday. Admission is $6 for adults, $4 for seniors, $3 for teens and children under 12 are free. The City of Fairfax is hosting its 30th annual Holiday Craft Show this weekend at Fairfax High School. Artisans from across the United States in addition to local artists will be selling their wares. The Craft Show runs Saturday and Sunday. Admission is $5 per day, $8 for a two-day pass. Children under 18 are free. If you love cider, you might enjoy Cider Tasting at the Lyceum on Saturday at 7pm. Sample ciders from around Virginia along with light hors d’oeuvres and live music. Tickets are $50 and must be purchased in advance. The Meadowlark’s Winter Walk of Lights opens this Friday in Vienna. Walk through a half-mile of animated lights and finish it off with roasted marshmallows and hot coco by the fire.
