Happy Veterans Day weekend! Thank you to everyone who has served or is currently serving. In addition to free meals, lots of businesses offer free or discounted services to veterans, U.S. Armed Forces members and military families. Check out this list by the Military Times for some participating businesses.

Here’s a look at what’s happening in our area this weekend.

Entry to all National Parks is free this weekend in celebration of Veterans Day. This is a great opportunity to visit one of our beautiful parks to see the fall foliage.

George Washington’s Mount Vernon is celebrating Veterans Day with free entry for all active duty, former, or retired military personnel on Saturday. There will be special activities and performances throughout the day.

Fort Ward Museum and Historic Site in Alexandria is offering free soldier-led tours Saturday from 10 to 11:30 am. Visitors will experience a tour led by an interpreter portraying a Union Soldier. This free tour is open to everyone.

Gadsby’s Tavern Museum in Alexandria is offering free tours to all visitors this Saturday from 11am to 4pm.

Enjoy extended hours and featured artists at the Workhouse Arts Center’s Second Saturday Art Walk. This free event runs from 6 to 9 pm and is located in Lorton.

Sunday’s Free Book Talk at the Manassas Museum will feature Rick Richter who will discuss his book "Three Cheers for the Chesapeake.” This free talk will start at 1:30pm.
