Happy December! Here’s a look at what’s happening in our area this weekend. There are lots of holiday markets opening if you're in the mood to shop!

The Fairfax City Holiday Market opens on December 1, and will be open Friday-Sunday the first three weekends in December. Old Town Square will be turned into a market filled with craft vendors. In addition, there will be live entertainment, hot drinks, and gourmet treats. If you go to the market this Saturday, you’ll also get to enjoy the Festival of Lights and Carols (http://www.fairfaxva.gov/about-us/special-events/festival-of-lights-and-carols) that will begin at 2pm and end with the tree lighting ceremony at 6pm.

Alexandria’s Holiday Market opens December 1, and will be open the first three weekends in December and then daily from December 18-23. This is an outdoor European style market. In addition to art and craft items for sale, there will be live entertainment, a children’s corner with fun activities, food and beverages for purchase. If you head to Old Town Alexandria this Saturday be sure to check out all the other holiday events happening throughout the day, starting with the Scottish Christmas Walk Parade at 11am and ending with the Alexandria Holiday Boat Parade of Lights at 5:30pm.

The Del Ray Artisans Holiday Market opens in Alexandria this weekend and will run Friday-Sunday the first three weekends in December. Each weekend will feature different artists and is a great opportunity to purchase unique locally made arts and crafts. If you go this Saturday, you can stick around for the Del Ray tree lighting ceremony at 6pm.

The 40th Annual Holiday Arts and Crafts Show at Audrey Moore RECenter in Annandale is this Saturday and Sunday. Nearly 100 of the area’s artisans will be selling their wares. Admission is $2 per person, 12 and under are free.

The Herndon Arts and Crafts Show is Sunday from 10am to 4pm at the Herndon Community Center. Over 80 artisans and craftspeople will display their wares. Parking and admission is free.
